Growing Flowers Plants

When it comes to growing plants, experience is the best teacher. It never hurts to have a good book to add to your knowledge and perspective. As you care for your plants you can apply what you have read and learned as needed and useful and discard what doesn't seem to fit. Take a look at some of the books below and maybe you will decide to add one to your home library. Just remember, experience is the best teacher. A book will offer some guidelines but only you can give your plants and flowers the proper care.

My first job working in the interior landscape industry was in 1986. I was looking for a job that did not require me to be in an office all day long. An ad for a route driver taking care of tropical plants appeared in the "help wanted" section one day. I love to drive so that sounded fantastic to me. It also stated that "no experience was necessary". Good thing because I had little experience with tropical plants.

As fate would have it, I was hired for my first interior landscape job two weeks later. My first week was spent learning very basic and general information about how to care for the plants on these accounts. The second week, I was handed the keys to my company vehicle, route driving instructions, account information and logs, and was told I was on my own.

Believe it or not, the hardest part of the job as an indoor plant care person is NOT taking care of the plants, it is finding your way to each account and then finding all of the plants that are located inside of that account. Some accounts have 4 or 5 plants and some accounts have hundreds of plants. They may be located behind closed doors, in conference rooms with meetings going on, or just about anywhere you can imagine. Most of my time, at first, was just finding accounts and locating the plants.

You may be wondering what all of this has to do with plant care books. Or maybe you can guess. Since I did not know much of anything about tropical, indoor plants, I decided I had better get a book to help me learn the names of the plants, so I could identify them, and to learn something about the care of the plants and what problems I might face while taking care of them.

So that is what I did, bought some houseplant care books. They were quite helpful in learning to identify the plants. I could learn this while I was at home, instead of while I was out trying not to get lost in a city I had seldom been to, in a building I was just learning my way around.

In other words, books can be quite helpful to you as you care for your existing plants, whether indoors or out in the yard. They can help you identify plants and you can read about any needs or problems specific to that plant. You can also learn much generally about the care of plants that can benefit you with all of your plants, including your indoor houseplants and your beautiful tomato plant growing on the patio! Hope you find something here that will serve you well in the care of your plants and flowers...
